shower curtains coral colors – If you are thinking about changing your bathtub you might well have looked around a couple of bathroom shops and been surprised by the amount of choices you have. Even choosing a shower valve can be a tricky business so here’s a guide to let you know what is what when it comes to showers.

This is the most elementary type of shower. Most manual showers have one lever control that you use to control the circulation of the water and the temperature. They’re very simple to use and usually are not costly.

The excellent benefit of a thermostatic shower valve is it can provide a constant, even temperature and cope with fluctuations in the flow and temperature of the hot and cold water feeds. Most thermostatic valves have additional anti-scald safety features and will cut off the flow of water when the cold water supply fails.

Concealed / Exposed describes the way in which the shower valve is mounted on the wall. A hidden shower valve is built into the shower wall so that the majority of the valve is hidden and just the control levers are observable. An exposed valve is mounted onto the shower wall so the whole mechanism is observable. Many shower valves can be mounted either exposed or hidden.

Unlike one lever valve, a twin valve includes two controllers, one control for its speed of water flow and a second control for your water temperature.

A triple valve has three controllers; one for your water flow, one for the warmth and a third that is usually a diverter. The diverter is useful if you have two shower heads. It’s becoming more common to have a fixed shower head above the shower and also a hand-held shower head as well. The diverter on a triple shower valve lets you choose that shower head water is fed into.

This is one we receive a great deal of questions about. A sequential valve includes one lever that works rather like the knob on your cooker. When the lever is totally anti-clockwise the bathtub is off. As you rotate the lever it turns out the shower turns on. With a successive valve “on” signifies entirely on so you have full pressure right away. As you rotate the lever farther you raise the warmth of the water.

Shower Panels

A recent newcomer is your shower stall or shower tower. This is one unit that contains all you will need for a stunning shower. Specifications vary but usually include a shower valve (often thermostatic), a diverter, a fixed shower head, a hand held shower and several body jets. Shower panels are easy to install but can require very high water pressure to work nicely so that you might want to install a bathtub pump as well.

These days, shower components are standardized enough that you can pretty much pick and choose the components that you want to create the shower of your dreams. You can choose from hundreds of shower valves, diverters and stop valves, have numerous heads, ceiling mounted heads, riser railings, stiff risers or body jets to construct exactly the shower you want, individual and customized to your own needs. After all, how else are you going to receive a shower with 16 jets and a 12 inch shower heads?

Electric showers heating the water as it passes through the shower so they simply require a cold water supply so you have simpler plumbing and do not require any hot water to conduct them. Electric showers are particularly well known in en-suites.

Power Showers

A power shower is basically a shower with a built in pump. A power shower needs both hot and cold water supplies. A power shower does not heat the water it pushes water through and increased water pressure, providing you with a stronger shower. Power showers are ideal where you have low water pressure, maybe in a bungalow.

So there you have it. Not quite all you want to learn about showers, however a good start!
